Spotlight

A fallen star. A runaway bride.

They’re about to be pitted against each other by a very powerful man.

Madison Miller has everything – beautiful, talented and just a little bit naive; she’s the small-town girl who swept to victory on America’s hottest talent show to become the nation’s sweetheart.

She’s also head-over-heels in love with the man who’s masterminded her career – the head-spinningly powerful, lethally attractive Beau Silverman. But there’s trouble in paradise…

Jess has bolted from her approaching wedding and a dead-end job in London to chase dreams of being a fashion designer in New York. But she’s finding life in the Big Apple tough, until she meets a man who makes her an offer she can’t refuse. It means a taste of a life she’s never had – glamorous parties, paparazzi, haute couture – but at what price?

Sweeping from the hotspots of LA to the coolest bars of New York, SPOTLIGHT cuts a gloriously fun swathe through the world of celebrity and glamour, with a page-turning story at its heart.

And here’s an early review from a reader

There are some books which take a while to understand. There are books which you connect with instantly. Ilana Fox takes falling in love to a whole new level with ‘Spotlight’.

Of course, a great plot is necessary to make this a good read, and we are given just that and more. The book revolves around the lives of two people: Madison and Jess. Madison dreams of being a singer and so moves to New York with a friend in an attempt to fulfill her dreams. When she meets a man whilst partaking in her night job as an exotic dancer, her world is turned upside down almost overnight. But will her dream become reality, and will it be as big of a delight as she imagined? London girl Jess too has a dream, but she wants to be a fashion designer. Whilst stuck in a dead end job as an assistant on a newspaper, she spends hours dreaming up designs and sketching. Will she be given the chance to shine too?

Fox’ style is wonderful. She goes into so much necessary detail that you can clearly paint a picture in your head. On a personal note, it opens my eyes to the world of Journalism that I long for, and Fox can do this easily as she has worked for various newspapers herself. Now I do not know what her history with exotic dancing is, but she seems to be able to portray the character’s role within fairly easily too!

This is most certainly one of the greatest books I have read in a long time. The plot is exciting and the characters are well rounded. It is incredibly thrilling to see the characters develop throughout the story, and each chapter brings a new and exciting twist. It is definitely one that I would happily recommend to all.

The first thing that strikes me about this book is the cover. Okay so you should not judge a book by its cover as the cliche goes, however this one is incredible. You have the almost-Barbie pink colour tastefully decorated with little white stars. Mounting the cover is nothing more than a pair of legs, topped with a black dress and heeled sandals. With ‘Spotlight’ sprawled across the knees in a glamorous font, it truly is a book that will draw you in. This is such a thick plot, and incredibly fast paced. Just a third of the way into the book and already enough has happened to create a full novel. Yet Fox still has lots to churn out throughout, and never is there a dull moment in the book. Now I do not normally like books that alternate between the lives of two characters, but this one fits in really well and it isn’t just ‘chapter for chapter’ – we are actually given a good handful of chapters for each character before we switch, which allows us to connect with them more. The book will be released in paperback form in April of this year, so not too long to wait now! It will be widely available from book stores such as WHSmith and Waterstones, and will cost around £12. That is definitely a great price to pay for something so wonderful, money well spent for sure.
